This full-day tour explores the central highlands of São Tomé, combining historic plantations, key cultural sites and one of the island's most accessible waterfalls. It is designed as a clear introduction to the interior, linking the capital with the agricultural regions that shaped the island.
The route begins in São Tomé city with visits to the National Museum, the cathedral and the main market, giving context to the island's colonial history and independence. From there the tour moves inland to Batepá before climbing into the highlands to visit Roça Monte Café and Roça Saudade, where coffee and cocoa production once shaped entire communities.
In the afternoon the tour continues to Cascata de São Nicolau, reached by forest track, before finishing at a working chocolate factory where traditional processing methods are still used today.
São Tomé City Cultural Sites
Begin at the National Museum, the Cathedral (Igreja da Sé), Praça da Independência and the traditional market. A grounding introduction to the island's colonial history and independence.
Batepá and the Highlands
Drive inland to Batepá, site of the 1953 massacre and a key location in São Tomé's independence history, before climbing into cooler highland air.
